Revival of Vijer Dolpo (ROV-Dolpo), a non-profit organization committed to transforming lives in the remote Dolpo region. ROV-Dolpo was funded by Mr. and Mrs. Pritzker (American Family) and Mr. and Mrs. Roncoroni (Swiss Family) and was established in the year 2001 A.D. Later, in 2011 A.D., it was formally registered as an NGO with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of the Government of Nepal. ROV-Dolpo is commited to supporting the local community in Vijer, Dolpo through initiatives that focus on education, healthcare, and overall community development.
About Vijer Village
Vijer, or Bhijer, is one of the isolated, pristine, and remote villages in the Dolpo region. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,869 meters above sea level, near the holy mountain Mukporong. Previously known as the Vijer Village Development Committee (VDC), it was restructured under the Local Government Operation Act of 2074, leading to its division into Vijer-05, Pho-06, and Ku-07 within Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality. The Vijer valley is surrounded by rocky mountains known as the Four Rongs, along with various pilgrimage sites. To the east are Mount Mukporong and Naychen Lhaygo; to the south are Shelri Drukda (Crystal Mountain) and Sanggayrong; to the west are Shethayrong and Gyaldongrong; and to the north is Zeporong. A river flows from Mount Mukporong throughout the valley, enhancing its allure for visitors and residents alike. The village is divided into two sections: Chuetoe and Chuema. Both Tibetan Buddhism and the ancient Bon religion are practiced in the village. There are two ancient Shakya monasteries (over 800 years old), which currently practice Nyingmapa: Nesar Monastery (Chopalhakhang) located in the Chuema section and Langgon Tashi Choeling in the northwest of Vijer. Additionally, there is a renowned gompa of the Yangton Bonpos called Bonpo Lhakhang in Chuetoe, as well as the largest and oldest Bon monastery in the Dolpo region, Dhensachepo Yangton Samling Monastery( over 800 years old), situated on a mountain crest south of Vijer.
